Josh Smith, the singer and songwriter for Handsome and the Humbles, channels his real-life experiences into his music. The Knoxville-based Americana outfit’s latest album, “Alt-Country,” is a testament to this, built on the profound losses that brought Smith to his knees. Although Smith’s songs are not explicitly about the death of his father and the end of his marriage, the emotional foundation of the album is formed from these events. This intimate collection of tracks began as scribbled lyrics and simple acoustic chords, evolving into a full-fledged album.
