The Medal of Honor is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a military service member. This award recognizes those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, displaying courage and selflessness in the face of danger. We encourage everyone in the DFW metroplex and Southern Oklahoma to attend!
Being selected as a Medal of Honor Host City is a significant honor. In 2001 Gainesville, Texas became the only city in America to host our nation’s highest decorated heroes annually to promote patriotism and celebrate the heroism of the recipients. The parade will feature Medal of Honor recipients, military units, and bands, making it an event that should not be missed! It’s an opportunity to show our appreciation for those who have served our country and made sacrifices to ensure our freedom.

Medal of Honor Annual Book Signing event will follow the parade from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The Stanford House, 401. W. Garnett Street Gainesville, Texas. Meet and chat with Medal of Honor recipients and authors who have written about their heroic acts.
Leonard Park and The Frank Buck Zoo is the centerpiece of the city. The community park consisting of 30.05 acres and the zoo are must-visit destinations. With over 130 species of animals to observe, including big cats, primates, and reptiles, this zoo offers a unique and exciting experience for all ages.
Morton Museum of Cooke County offers exhibits on local culture, industry, and famous figures, providing great insight on the region’s past.
Deschain Cellars, Winery & Lounge (15 minutes from downtown and located just off of US-82) is a winery that feels like a secluded escape in the woods (however, you won’t have to drive on dirt roads to get there, so you can bring your fancy car if you desire). Surrounded by nature, it’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a glass of wine or sangria after the Medal of Honor Parade. Sit back, relax, and savor the flavors of delicious wine and food while crowd favorite Dave Semans serenades you with acoustic hard rock classics + new favorites from 3-6PM. The North Texas Corvette Club will also be gathering at Deschain after the parade, adding an exciting element to your visit.
Lavender Ridge Farms (https://deschaincellars.com/16 minutes from downtown) is a must-visit attraction for anyone who loves nature and tranquility. Take a stroll through the fields, browse the gift shop for unique gifts, and enjoy a delicious meal at the cafe.
Circle N Dairy (17 minutes from downtown) is a working farm that offers tours, activities, delicious dairy products and an assortment of locally made foods and goods. Take a tour of the farm, see the cows up close, and sample some of the best ice cream and cheese around.
